The flow of electric current in piecewise-inhomogeneous anisotropic media is discussed. The determining equation is an elliptic equation with piecewise-constant coefficients and a right member that consists of a linear combination of delta functions. A bounded computing region is used; the problem of placing boundary conditions on the resulting boundaries is discussed and types 1,2 and 3 boundary conditions are analyzed. The delta function is modeled with the adjoint basis function of the loaded node. An example of application of finite elements to investigate a two-layer isotropic space is presented, and the dependence of solution error on the parameters of the finite-element model is analyzed.
