Mathematical simulation of the process of penetration of still striker into a granular free-flowing substance

Abstract:

We propose a mathematical model for the process of dynamic deformation of sand that is considered as a granular free-flowing substance with inner friction. Using a numerical method for three-dimensional variant of the model proposed, we study the problem of penetration of still cylindrical and star-shaped strikers in a half-space filled by the substance under consideration. We reveal how the shape of a striker and its velocity affect the depth of penetration.
