Development of composite pressure vessels for space applications

Abstract:

Design, analysis and manufacturing of composite pressure vessels for the upper stage of “Proton-M” space launcher are considered. The pressure vessel with internal volume 36 L designed for the working pressure 33 MPa is a metal-composite shell consisting of a thin-walled welded aluminum liner and a composite load-carrying layer made by continuous filament winding of organic fibers Armos impregnated with epoxy resin EHD-MD. Optimum design of the domes and the cylindrical section of the pressure vessel are discussed.
