Behavior of glass fiber reinforced plastics based on epoxydian resin modified by aerosil

, ,

Abstract:

The mechanical properties of unidirectional glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) based on the ED-20 epoxy resin were investigated. The resin was modified by aerosil 380. Triethanolaminotitanate was used as a hardener. The aerosil content in the epoxy matrix was 1, 2.5, 5 and 10 wt. %. A winding method of the unidirectional GFRP on the based on the filled binders is offered. It is shown that aerosol introduction does not change shear strength, but increases flexural strength (by 20%) and flexural modules of elasticity (by 30%). It is possible to increase interlaminar fracture toughness of unidirectional GFRP by 40% with raising the content of nanoparticles in a matrix.
