Computer simulation of intermediate forms of erythrocytes

Abstract:

We propose a simple two-parameter mathematical model that is based on the so-called Cassinian ovals and describes the variation of erythrocyte’s forms from a normal, disc-shaped form to a sphere-shaped form; the later takes place in the evolution of pathological states of human and animals. The computer diagrams, including the three-dimensional ones, give us an opportunity to make a comparison of the variations of form and dimensions of the erythrocytes watched using a microscope with the standard data. Thus, all the variety of forms and dimensions of erythrocytes can be reduced to a simple quantitative unified scale. We have developed a software for calculation of the erythrocyte’s volume and the area of erythrocyte’s surface when knowing its thickness and diameter.
